Ian started painting in watercolour about thirteen years ago after a thirty-two year career in aviation. Though entirely self-taught, his style has been greatly influenced by the works of Seago, Wesson, Fletcher-Watson, Yardley and Chamberlain, who are masters of capturing the essence of a scene with simplicity and freshness.

The British Isles has a wealth of scenes asking to be painted. For Ian, the landscapes of the Cotswolds and the seascapes of Cornwall, Devon and Pembrokeshire are areas he tries to visit as often as possible. Heis particularly drawn to subjects that contain interesting historical buildings, trees of fishing boats.

Mood, space and a sense of timeliness are the qualities that Ian tries to achieve in his paintings, and watercolour, with its wonderful transparent quality is an ideal medium and well suited to his traditional style and approach.

Ian regularly exhibits in Worcestershire and Herefordshire and has had work accepted by the Royal Institute for their exhibition in London.

For the past nine years, Ian has been teaching watercolour painting in Worcester and Malvern. He also holds "one day" workshops and demonstrations for local art clubs and societies.
