Barbara graduated in furniture design from Leeds in the 1960's and then worked in the industryfor a while before marrying and bringing up two girls. A part time fine art course at Hereford College of Art and Design developed her watercolour and painting skills. She set up a small business around 20 years ago selling her paintings, having cards and othe rproducts created using her artywork and selling these through local outlets.

Barbara initially concentrated on watercolour paintings of local scenes around Herefordshire, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire. Her participation in local Painting and Arts and Crafts Societies has led o many successful exhibitions around the three counties. She has also enjoyed completing many commisions and some enthusiasts are alrredy collecting her works.

Paintinsg and cards of the cathedrals of Worcester, Gloucester and Hereford are represented in the exhibitions. Some original paintinsg used for card and postcard designs such as "Gloucester Cathedral", "Farmhouse Door", "Malverns from the Teme", "Sheep by a Farmhosue Door and "Friar Street" are also on show.

Barbara is now developing a series of abstract paintinns entitled "Looking Down" (No. 11 in the exhibition). These are inspired by the ever-changing views of the ground from a high altitude. Sle is also experimenting with acrylics on tissue paper and with oils and pastels exemplified by "Strat" and "Stone Outcrop".

The main area of teh Malvern Hills Gallery has a permanent display of piuctures, prints, cards and mats that is regularly refreshed with new works.
