Mike Purkiss started to paint when he retired five year ago and allowed his long time interest in art to be put to a practical experience. His self taught style can best be described as impressionstic. The use of vibrant colours and strong tonal contracts based mainly on townscapes with the inclusion of figures are his favourite subjects.

To date all his work has been in watercolour as he feels this medium suits his style, no doubt the use of other media will come into his work in due course.

Mike's enthusiasm to paint has been fuelled by a satisfying acceptance of his paintings at exhibitions. His one regret is that he didn't start earlier but this has had the positive effect of making time a precious commodity.
