Sue Richards - An Exhibition of Paintings - July 2006

Sue is 50 years old, married to Glenn and has 2 children, Duncan and Caroline. She is a member of the Malvern Artist Society.

Sue works part time as a Practice Nurse at a local Doctor's Surgery in Ironbridge, Shropshire alongside her husband who is one of the doctors.

Outside of work Sue loves gardening, walking, wildlife and painting. She has had no formal art training but has always drawn having been surrounded by art as both her parents are competant artists. Sue's daughter is a very talented artist and with her encouragement in 1999 Sue attended the local College and took A Level Art. This opened up ideas and techniques in both 2D and 3D. Sue loved this and realised how much she wanted to explore further her art.

At present Sue is part is part of a thriving Life drawing group run in Shrewsbury and looks forward to their weekly sessions. This work is principally in pastel exploring tone, light and shade. These sessions have provided ideas to develop paintings in other media and colour.

Sue's completed paintings have been principally watercolour, mixed media and pastel but she is now exploring pen and wash, acrylic and oils.

In 2002 Sue was encouraged further by being the winner of a competition entitled Create Your Own Midsummer Dream to represent the perfect summer's day run by the Cumberland Pencil Company. In September 2005, Sue was accepted to compete on ITV in the A Brush With Fame portrait competition where she reached the Birmingham Regional Final with pastel portraits of Jilly Goulden and Anthony Worrell-Thompson.

This is Sue's first solo exhibition open to the public although she shows her artwork in her workplace.
