A certain minor light may still

Lean incandescant

Out of kitchen table or chair

As if a celestial burning took

Possession of the most obtuse objects now and then

Thus hallowing an interval

Otherwise inconsequent

Linda chose to call this exhibition Ephemera to help convey her interest in the transient or short-lived qualities of her subject matter. To her, these subjects are rendered remarkable and poignant by their fleeting nature.

The exhibition includes landscapes in which fugitive light effects have lent the scenes unique and often dramatic consequences. Also featured are paintings where the play of light has affected compositions which include figues or flowers. Linda's watercolours are often painted rapidly to capture the delicate, impermanent nature of a subject such as Spring flowers. Working in other media, such as oils, takes longer but is equally enjoyable.

Painting has become increasingly important to Linda. She has had various occupations since studying social sciences in the early 1970s, including pathologist's secretary, nursing auxiliary in psychiatric units and homecare assistant. When her two younger children were small and she hada break from paid employment, Linda began to teach herself to paint in watercolour whenever possible - during their naps or playgroup sessions.

Linda has lived in Worcester for 18 years, and during most of that time she has attended one art class a week at Malvern Hills College. Initially, this was a fugure-drawing class with tutor Guy Woodford and subsequently one in oil-painting with Roy Jones.

Linda has exhibited in various joint and group exhibitions in Worcester and Malvern as well as 2 small studio exhibitions in Worcester's Swan Theatre.
