Mike Purkiss started to paint when he retired 5 years ago and allowed his long term interest in art to be put to practical experience. His self-taught style can be best described as impressionistic. The use of vibrant colours and strong tonal contrasts based mainly on townscapes with the inclusion of figures is his favourite subject.

To date, all his work has been in watercolour as he feels thst this medium suits his style, no doubt the need explore will see other media come into his work.

Mike's enthusiasm to paint has been fuelled by a satisfying acceptance of his paintings at exhibitions. His one regret is that he wishes he had started earlier but this has had the positive effect of making time a precious commoodity.

Mike lives and works in Ledbury, Herefordshire.
